Intro to Quizzing (3 of 4):
Quiz Meets

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

-  Unknown Author, to a Jewish/Hebrew scholar (Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV))

Quiz meets can vary in their event structure. Most commonly, once per month during the quiz season the “local teams” of a “district” (a specific geographic area) will meet where one of the local teams usually practices, usually a church. The season’s schedule and locations are organized by a district coordinator/director before the beginning of each season. Typically held on Saturdays, teams will arrive at the quiz meet around 8am for announcements, a devotional and prayer. Then the teams are sent off to their first round of the day based on the day’s schedule. Mornings usually follow a round-robin format where all teams get to play all other teams either once or more times each. Quizzing then stops for lunch as each final round-robin round ends. Then depending on the quiz meet there may be a few more round-robin quiz rounds, no rounds after lunch, or there may be a single- or double-elimination tournament for teams to compete to determine which team will claim the top spot for the quiz meet!
At quiz meets there is also time to make friends and have fun in the morning, between rounds, during the lunch break and after the quiz meet, making for a great environment to build relationships over the multiple years that a teen quizzes for - and with a unique shared experience and interest of Bible quizzing. Even traveling to and from quiz meets on its own can be a fun and enriching experience as a team! Quiz meets are a truly special environment characterized by the love the adult leaders have for their teens in guiding them in the way they should go and helping them grow in their faith by learning the truth about God’s Word. It is the adults that minister to the teens by supporting them in study, competition, in their personal lives, and by allowing them to enjoy the fun and eternal value that comes from Bible quizzing! It’s a difficult thing to try and put a price on the quality time with others you get to have while also being so aware of the Word of God.
Quizzing’s regular season consists only of District-level quiz meets. The regular season begins in August/September and ends in February/March (with potential to go as late as June). Each quiz meet of the regular season is held at a different location, usually at churches of local teams within that district (a specific geographic area). If a quizzer does well, they may qualify to be on one of the “district teams” and attend the end of year Field-level competition, which covers a greater geographic area along with the top teams from those areas too and with higher levels of competition. Each field across North America holds their Field-level event at the field’s associated Nazarene university. At Field-level events, quizzers can further qualify for one of the “field teams” and compete at the national/international level, the most competitive levels of quizzing. These events also usually have field-level and district-level quizzing as well (and adults can quiz too!).
