Intro to Quizzing (2 of 4):
Scripture Portions

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I will not neglect your word.”

-  David, unto the Lord (Psalm 119:11, 16b (NIV))

Each year for Nazarene-style quizzing a specific portion of Scripture from the New Testament is chosen, and questions for that year are used for that year’s entire quiz season. In Nazarene-style quizzing there is an 8-year rotation of Scripture used for each quiz season:
For more story-based years (such as the Gospels and Acts), the “Situation (S)” question type is used, whereas in years where multiple books are studied, the “In what book and chapter (I)” question type is used instead of the situation question.
Quizzers don’t have to memorize Scripture to participate in Bible quizzing, however, memorizing Scripture can be a great help. Above it can also be seen that there are 3 question types specifically geared toward Scripture memorization. Each year there are between 70 to 100 memory verses to memorize throughout the season. Quizzers that choose to not memorize Scripture leave these questions free for the quizzer that does memorize to get up to 3 questions per round with little competition.
There is no curriculum other than the Scripture itself and the staggered pattern of which the quiz season follows as a means for pacing quizzers as they study throughout the year. This means that with each quiz meet a handful of chapters are added to study, practice, and compete over. There are however resources sold by The Foundry Publishing that serve as material for purposes similar to that of a curriculum.
Besides what is available for purchase, there are a number of other quizzing resources available. Please see the Resources page for more information.
